This community camp is a rustic haven. A perfect base for intrepid travellers at the entrance to Kosi Bay.

Accommodation

The camp has evolved from simple dome tents to its current incarnation: Ten simple reed huts with canvas roofs strung out along the treeline.

The rustic reed and canvas chalets, each with twin beds and en-suite toilet and shower, are basic but comfortable.

Linen is provided,  but guests are asked to bring their own beach towels and toiletries.

Amangwane Camp is a joint partnership between the local community; which owns the land, and Emma and Anton Roberts, owners of Umkhumbi Lodge and The Wetland Park Group.The camp is co-owned by your host Elmon Mkhonto and staffed by local guides and community members. A large portion of the profits go directly to the community. Activities support several local initiatives.

Its simplicity is its authenticity. When you go to bed at night you can smell the wood smoke from the village fires, hear the children’s laughter and calls, all the sounds of life in a traditional village. Awake with the roosters at dawn, walk to the viewpoint and watch the sun rise over the sea, lighting up the extraordinary vista of the Kosi Bay lakes.
